Christ-Centered Advent Countdown: Day 2

When The Baby returned from preschool today, we discovered The Christmas Angel (who has been lovingly named Apple Starlight) downstairs ready to lead us on our next advent adventure.

Day 2: You visited Bethlehem last night to experience the very first Christmas with a living nativity. Today, you will get to set up your very own nativity at home. But … you will first have to find all the pieces!

When the kiddos were still really little, I started collecting the Fisher Price Little People holiday sets (we have one for Valentine’s Day, one for Easter, one for Thanksgiving, and one for Christmas).┬áThese have become THE highlight every time we pull out decorations for each holiday (AKA the most coveted item that results in arguing between the three spawns).

One year, I stumbled upon this awesome idea of making a scavenger hunt out of the nativity pieces! The Christmas Angel gave the first clue for the first character. When they found it, they also found the clue to the next character, and continued until they came to Baby Jesus.

When they found the first character, the angel, Gabriel, they also found the clue for Mary: “I am Jesus’ mother. Who am I? Find me in the play room.”

The shepherds were hiding in our mini Christmas village and had the clue for the wise men: “We traveled far to bring gifts to the new king. Herod asked us to report back to him but we did not. Who are we? Find us in the living room.”

Last, but definitely not least: Baby Jesus!

After all the pieces were found, we sat down and read this:

It’s such a simple version of the Christmas Story that helps tie the whole activity together.
